Lavatelli will expand on his practice by presenting a site specific installation alongside a selection of his paintings made over the past 35 years. Mark Lavatelli is a Buffalo-based painter who works primarily with an antiquated beeswax technique called encaustic. This technique is rarely utilized today, which makes Lavatelli’s paintings extremely unique. In addition to having exhibited in solo and group shows all over the United States, his work in this medium has won him many different awards, grants, and commissions. An opening reception will take place Saturday, September 13th from 8-11pm. The exhibition will run through Sunday, October 26th, 2014. As always, our exhibitions are free and open to the public.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern" z_index="" el_class="gray-border-top"][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type="row" type="grid" text_align="center" css_animation="" el_class="white"][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][icons icon="fa-map-pin" size="fa-4x" type="normal" position="center" target="_self"][vc_column_text] Exhibit Location Big Orbit Project Space 30D Essex Street Buffalo, NY 14213[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][icons icon="fa-calendar" size="fa-4x" type="normal" position="center" target="_self"][vc_column_text] Exhibit Dates Saturday, September 13, 2014 through October 26, 2014 Admission Free to the public[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][icons icon="fa-clock-o" size="fa-4x" type="normal" position="center" target="_self"][vc_column_text] Exhibit Times 8:00 P.M - 11:00 P.M[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

This exhibition will see Bye continue his artistic investigations of quotidian materials by constructing a large scale sculpture within the expanse of Big Orbit’s open floor plan. Scott Bye is a Buffalo-based artist who’s practice involves manipulating found materials and everyday objects into creative fabrications and unlikely structures. His work can be found in museums, galleries, and various collections across New York State, the city of Buffalo, and the Greater Western New York region. “My work, hybrid sculptural structures constructed from a broad range of ordinary found materials, is intended to activate the viewer’s imagination and encourage them to question the potentiality of their own obsolescence. The objects that I use all have preordained paths and established histories whose future is determined by their usefulness. By redirecting the object’s likely path towards obsolescence, through combining and repurposing them, I create a set of new trajectories for the objects to inhabit. Such unlikely combinations often raise questions and suggest new perceptions about materiality. By transforming the materials that were once a part of our everyday
