DJ Carr is a self-taught artist from Buffalo, NY specializing in portraiture, documentary and street photography. An artist truly known for his attention to detail, authentic feel and exceptional monochrome captures. DJ started shooting digital photography about 8 years ago and transitioned fully into film photography in 2020. He was inspired by Gordon Parks and his way of documenting and capturing the stories of marginalized people within the inner city. DJ’s focus often falls on those same subjects, capturing the essence of the moment and revealing the truth within.
While on assignment in Europe, DJ falls back into the black hole which started his photo journey 13 years ago, his curiosity and need for connection. Spending 48hrs in Paris, and 4 days in Spain, DJ reached an average pace of 30,000 steps a day. Navigating through busy city streets & language barriers in both countries, he is reminded that photography is the universal dialogue for all things. With this new experience, he presents his 2nd solo exhibition “MERAKI”.
