Seeing in Black & White

A 3-Hour Class

Ages 16+

A 3-Hour Photography Class for Ages 16+

In this class, you will learn how to previsualize what works well in a black-and-white photograph. It’s this ability to form an image in your mind’s eye of what a finished photograph will look like before you ever release the shutter that allows you to hone in on subjects and compositions that will translate well into black-and-white. Once you’ve trained yourself to identify certain compositional elements that typically work well, it will become second nature to “see in black-and-white.” In addition to the visualization session, class participants will learn how to manipulate digital images to obtain desired B&W effect.

Meet the Teaching Artist

My name is Piotr (Peter) Meszynski. For the last 35 years, photography has been my calling, my passion, and the thing that will undoubtedly drive me insane someday. I don’t photograph subjects. I photograph the way they make me feel. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a strange concept. But it’s honest – and it’s the best way to describe my approach to the craft. I wrestle with every image I shoot. I assume perfection is possible and I want to wring it out of every picture.

I am fortunate to be able to spend a good amount of time on personal projects, traveling and collaborating with a team of great people. If that’s all you ever know about me, it’s enough to say you know me very, very well.
