CEPA Gallery’s Black Matters billboard exhibit highlights the realities of systemic and institutionalized racism, focusing the public’s attention not only on the present moment and the issue of police violence, but on the many challenges, contributions and assets of Black people in our communities. The text and image cohesion intends to speak directly to local governments and communities to create dialogue around the “isms” in our society with the hope of inspiring calls to action for lessening communal inequities.

The artwork from each of the twelve billboards are represented in an 11×14 print.

      A 1-Day Photography Class for Ages 16+

If you’re new to studio lighting, it is easy to get intimidated by the amount of stuff you have to learn.  In this hands-on class, you’ll start to learn the complexities of controlling light in a controlled space. CEPA will provide studio space and equipment, introducing you to some of the most basic studio lighting equipment and terms you will need to navigate a photography studio.

A model will be on site for hands on experience working in a real studio setting.

Class is taught by one of CEPA’s veteran instructors – Piotr Meszynski (see more about Peter below). By the end of the lab session, you’ll have the skills to tackle any type of indoor shoot, whether it’s in a huge warehouse or your spare bedroom.

In this class you will learn how to:

      · Set your ISO, shutter speed and aperture.
      · Understand depth of field and shooting groups.
      · Use all sorts of flashes, including strobes and hot shoe flashes, as well as modifiers.
      · Build your studio and buy the right gear for the right price.

In Thy Light We See Light, a 2019 CEPA exhibition by Rodney Galarneau, explores the intersection of nature and technology. A frequent visitor to CEPA’s digital lab, Rodney brings his photos of nature one step further on the computer. He explains:

“Trees have been my focus most of my adult life, but looking for more of a synthesis of the natural world I started to include clouds and sun. With digital photography the natural world unfolds before me. From my work with the sun I am intrigued with what appears as a contradiction; the camera imposing itself in the image, not just on the periphery but at the very core of the subject.”

He credits artist Arthur Dove, a painter of last century, who inspired his journey. And with a quick look at Arthur’s rings of color representing the setting sun, you can see why.
