THE NAZIS, THE RABBI AND THE CAMERA – Film Screening at Hallwalls

Join CEPA Gallery this Saturday at 6:30 PM for a film screening event at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, where the film THE NAZIS, THE RABBI AND THE CAMERA will be publicly shown for the first time in the United States. The Film will start at 7 PM and will be followed by a presentation and Q+A with artist and photographer Jill Enfield.

The Leitz company from Wetzlar pioneered the LEICA camera, which is still used by world-class photographers today.  Ernst Leitz II was a member of Hitler’s NSDAP. But Leitz had two faces: like Oskar Schindler, he saved Jewish employees from certain death.

Jill Enfield, a photographer from New York, is a descendant of the Ehrenfeld family from Frankfurt who were saved by Leitz. The photographer and rabbi Frank Dabba Smith has spent years researching her story and others. His conclusion: “For Ernst Leitz, it made no difference whether someone was Jewish or a Social Democrat. It was people he helped.”
