About the Event

INVITING ART COLLECTORS AND ENTHUSIASTS TO REGISTER NOW FOR WESTERN NEW YORK’S ONLY PROFESSIONAL ART AUCTION

CEPA Gallery is delighted to announce its 13th Biennial Art Auction on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Market Arcade Building in downtown Buffalo’s Theatre District. Garnering significant recognition over the past 20 years, CEPA’s biennial auction is the only professional art auction in Western New York and one of Buffalo’s most glamorous and festive art events.

This year honorary co-chairs, Robert and Ruth Fleming, along with auction chair and CEPA Board President Nancy J. Parisi are continuing this now 25 year tradition of offering incredible contemporary art to the collectors of Western New York.

For 2016 CEPA is proud to announce that we will be welcoming back Christopher Mahoney as our auctioneer. Mr. Mahoney is the former Senior Vice President, Senior Specialist, Photographs for Sotheby’s and is considered one of the world’s highest authorities on American photography auctions. Christopher received his Master of Arts and Humanities degree from the University at Buffalo, and participated in CEPA photography classes as a child.

A preview exhibition of all of the works available for sale at the auction goes on view starting on Friday, March 18 at CEPA Gallery and remains on view through auction day – Saturday, April 9. Lots will be added as they come in. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public, providing visitors with the unique opportunity to view artwork/auction lots in a gallery setting.

CEPA has secured donations from an impressive roster of over 80 artists with local, national, and international acclaim including Carrie Mae Weems, Cindy Sherman, Milton Rogovin, William Wegman, John Pfahl, Ellen Carey, Charles Clough, Julian Montague, Joan Linder, and many more. Many of the artists represented in the auction are from or have strong connections to Buffalo—the vast majority having participated in exhibitions at CEPA Gallery, and all recognize CEPA Gallery as an important arts institution.

This auction also marks the third year of the Rogovin Circle, the VIP auction ticket, named after late photographer Milton Rogovin (1909–2011). Rogovin Circle patrons, at a $150 patron level admission (or $250 per couple), are offered exclusive programming and perks. Each Rogovin Circle patron will receive an invitation to a private, catered Rogovin Circle cocktail party on Thursday, March 24th, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the new home of Dolce Panepinto. In their restored Forman House at 1260 Delaware Avenue, you will be able to preview highlighted auction works while mingling with fellow Rogovin Circle patrons and auction artists.

In addition to viewing the auction artwork in CEPA’s Flux and Passageway Galleries, the items will be able to be viewed at www.cepagallery.org.

Auction registration and absentee bidding will also be available via the CEPA website. General admission to the auction is $75 ($125 per couple) and includes an auction paddle, a full-color catalogue, an elegant buffet, and open bar. Rogovin Circle VIP admission is available for $150 ($250 per couple), and includes the private party and additional exclusive VIP benefits. The auction reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Market Arcade. The live auction begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.

Contact CEPA Gallery for further information, to make reservations, or to request absentee bid forms at 716-856-2717 or auction@cepagallery.org.
