Meet Artist Ruby Merritt

It is with great pleasure that we share a little bit more about the exhibiting artist behind A Soil Story, Ruby Merritt, who has been contributing to CEPA’s mission for two years and counting.

Ruby has always been fascinated with installation art, its ability to transform a space and make a statement. Unbeknownst to Ruby, this fascination would lead her to work closely with the exhibiting artists, installing shows at CEPA. As a result, it was natural for her bio-art themed prints, drawings and paintings to evolve into immersive and sometimes interactive installations, such as those found in A Soil StoryThe goal of Merritt’s installations is to emphasize soil’s relationship with climate change, offering ways to engage the local community through urban farming, encouraging participants to compost at home to help rebuild the green around their neighborhood and backyards.

Beyond creating online posts for CEPA and making reels in her pink tool belt, Ruby has been curating layouts, designing wall texts and vinyl, incorporating different looks with floated works, photographs behind glass and three-dimensional pieces, while staying committed to connecting the experience of the show to the largest audience possible, virtual or in-person. As part of A Soil Story, Merritt has been running weekly activities in the gallery, as well as visiting local schools to make sure our local community is involved.

Ruby has always been an advocate for member engagement and is dedicated to helping bring CEPA’s educational outreach to other communities in our area. Her dedication to experiential artwork has helped CEPA to continue to grow through many challenges we’ve faced over the past two years.
