THE RICHARDSON CENTER CORPORATION AND CEPA GALLERY ANNOUNCE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST WINNERS & EXHIBITION

Buffalo, NY—The Richardson Center Corporation and CEPA Gallery are delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural Richardson Olmsted Complex Photography Contest. The images will be presented in the CEPA Gallery exhibition, Interior Views: The Richardson Olmsted Complex, on view from Saturday, November 21, 2015 through Friday, December 17, 2015 at CEPA Gallery at 617 Main Street in the historic Market Arcade Building. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Both the exhibition and the opening reception are free and open to the general public.

40 photographs have been selected for display at CEPA Gallery in the exhibition Interior Views: The Richardson Olmsted Complex. Three winning photographs were chosen: Curving Walkways (First Place, by Frank Grace of Acushnet, MA), Hoping (Second Place, by Maureen Jameson of Amherst, NY), and Fading Light (Third Place, by Chris Doll of Tonawanda, NY) from submissions by Richardson Olmsted Complex photography tour participants and docents. In addition to the gallery exhibition, a total of submitted 130 photographs will be shown on the web sites of both organizations, and in a video display at CEPA. The images effectively convey many aspects of the unique setting.

Contestants participating in the Richardson Olmsted Complex Photography Contest were limited to individuals who had participated in official Richardson Center photography tours from 2011-2015, and docents at the complex. These photographers were invited to submit photographs of their vision of the interior of the Richardson Olmsted Complex. Images were reviewed by a committee of Richardson Center Corporation and CEPA Gallery staff, and the winners were notified of their selection for inclusion in CEPA’s exhibition. Upon the closing of the exhibition in late December, the contest winners will get to keep the prints of their winning photographs.

Interior Views: The Richardson Olmsted Complex will offer a rare glimpse inside one of the most architecturally and historically significant structures in Western New York. This is an extraordinary site, added to the National Register of Historic Places (http://www.nps.gov/Nr/research/) in 1973, and it became a National Historic Landmark (http://www.nps.gov/nhl/) in 1986. More about its history is available at www.richardson-olmsted.com

The Richardson Center Corporation and CEPA Gallery look forward to welcoming visitors to the exhibition to celebrate the winning photographers and this collaborative effort to bring attention to the rich legacy of Richardson and Olmsted in Western New York.

About the Richardson Center Corporation:
Reuse of the Richardson Olmsted Complex is the mission of the not for profit 501(c)(3) Richardson Center Corporation (RCC). Widely considered to be one of Buffalo’s most important and beautiful buildings, it will be adaptively reused as a hospitality venue and cultural amenity for the city. The RCC envisions the rehabilitation of the National Historic Landmark Richardson Olmsted Complex (the former Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane), comprised of the H. H. Richardson-designed buildings and Frederick Law Olmsted-designed grounds, to be the crowning jewel of a mixed-use, multi-purpose civic campus of public and private activities.
By combining contemporary ideas with our 19th century inheritance, the RCC will create to the highest standards a nationally significant, 21st century, economically self-sustaining and environmentally sound Richardson Olmsted Complex as a place for architectural, educational, cultural, and recreational activities for the benefit of the residents of and visitors to the Richardson Community, the Museum District, the Elmwood Village, and the entire Buffalo Niagara Region.
