CUSTOM WORKSHOPS
Workshops can be tailored to specific needs. Groups of four or more should contact CEPA for additional information and group rates.
Tutoring
Individual instruction is available at $35/hr with a two-hour minimum per session.
College credit

Darkroom
The darkroom is set up for black & white film developing and archival printing with tray chemistry. Enlargers, carriers, and lenses for film formats between 35mm and 4x5 are available. The darkroom has a large sink with the capacity to make prints up to 20" x 24" and an excellent ventilation system.
Digital Lab
The digital lab currently has 6 iMacs, Adobe CS3 software, internet access, two Epson 1280's and one Epson 2200.

Basic Digital SLR Photography

Mondays: January 11, 18, 25, February 1, 8, 15, 6:30 - 8:30pm
This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of photography and the ins and outs of your digital SLR camera, as well as train and uncover your own particular photographic eye. You will be given the tools to accurately shoot, edit and print your photographs for either creative expression or any photographic situation you may find yourself in.

Intermediate Digital SLR Photography

Wednesdays: January 13, 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17, 7 - 9pm
This workshop offers the perfect opportunity to explore the exciting creative potential of your digital SLR camera and further develop your own unique style as a photographer. During these six weeks we will cover a variety of creative and practical topics, including color, composition, thematic photography, custom camera settings and basic digital editing. Prior enrollment in CEPA's Basic Digital SLR Photography workshop is not required, but students should be comfortable using their camera and familiar with basic photographic terms and concepts.

Digital Point and Shoot Photography

Photography and Photoshop Montage

Combine digital photography & photo montage for artists, designers & photographers. Material covered: planning & shooting for montage; creating textural backgrounds; layering, blending modes & opacity; image transformations; levels & curves; lighting techniques; text applications; masks; channels; effects. A flash drive (1 GB minimum) is helpful for transporting your work. Bring a digital camera to first class. $150 member / $175 non-member
Basic Digital SLR Photography

If you have a new digital SLR camera or just want to know more about your camera's capabilities this workshop will offer you the opportunity to learn how to accurately compose, capture and print your photographs -- all the while discovering your own personal style to photography. Essential formulas for exposing images correctly will be demystified and discussed in user-friendly terms making this a perfect class to begin to understand and operate your camera beyond the "auto" settings.

Intermediate Digital SLR Photography

Now that you have mastered the basics of your digital SLR camera, continue exploring a variety of practical and creative topics with this investigative workshop where we will further cultivate your personal approach to image making. Discussions on lighting, color, subject matter, composition combined with projects to consider various photographic possibilities make this a worthwhile class whether you are looking to take photos for personal documentation or creative design. Prior enrollment in CEPA's Basic Digital SLR Photography workshop is not required, but students should be comfortable using their camera and familiar with basic photographic terms and concepts.

Basic Darkroom

First Monday of every month starting February 1, 6 - 9pm
If you would like to learn how to print black and white negatives or need a refresher in the darkroom, this is for you. You will have instruction and guidance in printing RC or Fibre Based paper using contrast filters, dodging, burning and other darkroom techniques for printing fine art prints.

Basic PhotoShop for Digital Photographers

Saturdays: February 13, 20, 27, March 6, 10am - 1pm
Students will learn to use the ten most important tools for photographers. Tools for resizing an image, adjusting density and color, retouching imperfections, the marquee tool, crop tool, magic wand, lasso tool, healing brush, clone stamp and the dodge and burn tool. Participants should bring images to work with and a Flash drive. Students will be using Apple computers and Adobe CS3 PhotoShop software.

Basic Flash Animation

The premier vector-based program for creating animation and interactivity for websites, presentations and mobile devices. Material covered: frame-based timeline; animation; keyframes and tweening; interactivity; tools; drawing and transformation of shapes; symbols; color; layers; transparency; audio synchronization; importing and exporting. A flash drive (256 MB minimum) is helpful for transporting your work. $150 member / $175 non-member
Black and White Movie Film Hand-Processing at CEPA Gallery with Jan Nagle and Brian Milbrand

Pre-Requisite: Super-8 Filmmaking Workshop, 16mm Filmmaking Workshop or equivalent experience
In collaboration with CEPA Gallery, Squeaky Wheel has moved its movie film hand-processing lab to CEPA Gallery's darkroom. On the first Saturday of every month, Jan and Brian will demonstrate the new processing system at CEPA. No prior hand-processing experience is required, though you must bring at least one roll of previously exposed black and white super 8 or 16mm film with you to hand process. Experienced hand-processors must attend one Saturday session with Brian or Jan before using CEPA's lab on their own. PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN UP FOR SATURDAY SESSIONS AT LEAST ONE DAY IN ADVANCE. PARTICIPANTS MUST ARRIVE AT CEPA NO LATER THAN 1:00PM ON THE DAY OF THE SESSION. To sign up, and for more information, please call Squeaky Wheel 716-884-7172. Image Transfers and Emulsion Lifts

Learn how to create image transfers, and emulsions lifts with Fujifilm FP-100C, Daylab Printer, and Daylab Jr. Slide Printer. Then explore different ways to use the media for your own personal expression. Participants are required to bring their own images.

Master Class: Project Development

Pre-requisite: Intermediate or Advanced knowledge of darkroom or digital photography.
This course is for artists working in digital or darkroom photography, who are working serially, and would like guidance on developing their ideas further, deepening and expanding concepts, and realizing concept through technique, through bi-weekly group critiques mixed with group and individually guided readings. This course is perfect for the self-taught artist, anyone developing a portfolio for graduate school, recent MFA graduates looking to reconnect with a community of artists, or someone simply seeking the guidance of an experienced photo educator. This class is for artists intending on exhibiting their work in gallery settings, it is not intended for commercial portfolio development. $150 member / $175 non-member
Building Websites in Flash

Pre-requisite: Basic Photoshop, Basic Flash Animation (CEPA or equivalent)
Programs used: Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop The premier industry standard program for creating animation and interactivity for websites. Technical and aesthetic considerations will be addressed. Participants will create a website with Flash and Dreamweaver integration. Material covered: web design for Flash; prepping files; basic animation and interactivity; behaviors and actions; basic ActionScript; importing audio and video; publishing; exporting.
