Journey’s End Refugee Services: Buffalo Through Their Eyes

CEPA Gallery Community Arts Programs - Refugee Services

Since 2010, CEPA has partnered with Journey’s End Refugee Services on Buffalo Through Their Eyes, their truly unique program that gives refugees new to Buffalo and the U.S. an opportunity to document their transition to a new life through photography.

With participants ranging in age from children to adults and representing many different cultures and life experiences, CEPA teaching artists work throughout the summer and fall, teaching participating refugees the art of photography and the empowerment that comes from sharing their own unique story with the larger community.

Assignments encourage participants to photograph their family, community and neighborhoods, creating opportunities for engagement and opening lines of communication—even though they may speak little or no English.
